Potomac Bible Church began in March 1981.  Glen Eickmeyer was the founding pastor, serving with the Rocky Mountain Bible Mission.  The congregation started by meeting in the hallway of Potomac School, then later in the Potomac/Greenough Community Center.  They even met in a chicken coop for a while, then later the existing land was donate and a building of 32' x 32' was built with the help of Rocky Mountain Bible Mission Churches.  Glen and Debbie were instrumental in getting the AWANA program started.  Potomac children are still enjoying AWANA 20 years later.  After Eickmeyer's move to Oregon in the late 1980s, Bob Horton was pastor for a year.  Ken Lake filled the pulpit for a summer.  Bob Schieder filled the pulpit for a while as well.  Steve Fawcett became the active pastor in August 1990.

We believe God's divine design for working in the world today is through the church as forth in Matthew 28:19-20. Our purpose then is two-fold:

1. The sharing of the good news of Christ. In the New Testament this takes place primarily as the "church is scattered."

2. The building up of the believer. In the New Testament this takes place as the "church is gather."

I. WORSHIP: We believe to worship God is the highest activity of life. Therefore, great importance is placed in our Sunday morning worship service.
We have only one weekly meeting for the entire church family. This service is divided into three parts: music, teaching and sharing.

II. TEACHING: We don't talk about the Bible, but "teach" from the Bible with strong personal application.

III. FELLOWSHIP: A time for visiting with old friends and building new relationships with guests. A time for prayer, singing, and praise. A service for sharing the reality of God in our lives and applying it to our daily living.

IV. REACHING OUT: Reaching out involves individuals sharing Christ as a "way of life" as the church is scattered in the world. To help believes, training in way of life sharing is providing through Evangelism Explosion.

The mission of the church is missions. We believe in a strong approach to missions. A percentage of our giving will always go to supporting missionaries whose philosophy of ministry is in keeping with the objectives of the New Testament and Potomac Bible Church. Our goal is to fully support individuals as members of our staff.

That the Good News of the Bible can be summarized in four brief points:

I. Problem - Sin
Romans 3:23 - All have sinned
Isiah 59:2 - Sin separates us from God

II. Penalty - Death
Romans 6:23 - Payment for sin is death
Ephesians 2:1 - Death is separation

III. Provision - Christ
John 1:29 Christ was God's Lamb
II Corinthians 5:21 - Christ became sin for me
Romans 5:8 - Christ died for me
Hebrews 9:22 - Shed blood brings forgiveness

IV. Promise - Eternal Life
John 3:16 - My part, Believe God's part, give eternal life
Colossians 2:13 - Eternal life comes when my sins are forgiven.

1. Acknowledge man's problems,
Romans 3:23 - All have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God

2. Recognize God's remedy,
1 Peter 3:18 - For Christ died for sins, once for all ... to bring you to God

3. Receive Christ as Savior and Lord,
John 1:12 - Yet to all who received Him to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become the children of God.
example prayer: "Lord Jesus, I do receive You as my Lord and Savior from my sins. Please take control of my life and make me the type of person You want me to be. Amen."

We believe in a team approach to church leadership. Thus we hold to a plurality of leadership and teachers, based in a Church Council. The Church Council is responsible to Christ to see that spiritual needs of the flock are identified and being met.

The leadership follows the practice of presenting our needs in a sensitive, positive, logical way and letting the Spirit of God do His gentle work in the hearts of our people. In our view, pressure might produce short term results, but could deprive our people of the joy of responding voluntarily to God. We try to avoid long-term debt by paying cash as much as possible.

We believe the place of music is to lift the heart of the believer toward God. This is best accomplished through direct participation. The goal of our music ministry is to help each member of the body praise God in his own heart.

Potomac Bible Church considers its members to be those believes who consistently attend the regularly church services. In other words, membership is actualized by a person's behavior, rather than by having his name on a membership roll. Ideally we want our "members" to share four basic commitments:

1. To seek deeper relationships with God and each other.

2. To sensitively help non-Christians trust Jesus Christ.

3. To be people in the process of growing towards maturity, and

4. To function as partners with the leadership in responding to Christ's leading for our church.

We Believe:
The Bible to be the verbally inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings, and the supreme and final authority in doctrine and practice (II Tim. 3:16-17; II Pet. 1:21; John 17:7)

In one God eternally existing in three equal persons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit, who have the same nature and attributes but who are distinct in office and activity (Matt. 28:19; II Cor. 13:14)

That the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, Holy become man, without ceasing to be God, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary, in order that He might reveal God and redeem sinful man. We believe that He accomplished our redemption through His death on the cross as a substiutionary sacrifice. We believe that our redemption and salvation is guaranteed by His literal physical resurrection from the dead (John 1:1,14,18; Luke 1:35; Romans 3:24-26, 4:25)

That salvation is a gift of God and is received by man through personal faith in Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for sin. We believe that man is justified by grace through faith apart from works. We believe that all who accept God's gift of salvation are baptized by the Holy Spirit into the Body of Christ at the moment of believing (Acts 13:38-39; Romans 6:23; Eph. 2:8-10; 1 Cor. 12:13; Eph 1:13)

That all true believers, once saved, are kept secure in Christ forever (Romans 8:1; John 10:27-30).
